What to do if your Stripe account is blocked

Stripe account restricted or blocked? Here are the common reasons, steps to fix it, and what NoCode.shop can (and can’t) do.

Why Stripe blocks an account

Stripe may restrict your account for several reasons:

  • Incomplete identity verification (KYC): Stripe requires an ID, address, and business info. Missing or expired docs = restricted account.
  • Unusual activity: sudden spike in transactions, high dispute rate, or frequent refunds trigger a review.
  • Restricted business types: some industries face strict rules on Stripe (CBD, crypto, adult content, etc.).
  • Inconsistent info: your business name, website, or description doesn’t match what Stripe expects.

What happens when it’s blocked

Depends on the restriction type:

  • Payouts suspended: Stripe keeps collecting payments but doesn’t transfer them to your bank. Funds are held by Stripe.
  • Payments disabled: in severe cases, Stripe blocks new payments. Customers see an error at checkout.

Usually, only payouts are suspended. Payments keep flowing.

Steps to unblock

  1. Check your Stripe dashboard: log in at dashboard.stripe.com. A red or orange banner tells you what Stripe needs.
  2. Provide requested documents: ID, proof of address, bank details, company registration. Send clear, up-to-date docs.
  3. Update your business description: make sure your website URL, business name, and description match your actual activity.
  4. Contact Stripe support: if the banner isn’t clear, reach out through Stripe’s built-in support.

What NoCode.shop can and can’t do

Your Stripe account is yours. NoCode.shop has no access to restrictions, verification docs, or Stripe’s decisions.

What we can do:

  • Check that the Stripe connection is active on the NoCode.shop side.
  • Help you connect a different Stripe account if needed.
  • Enable GoCardless as a temporary payment method for SEPA customers.

What we can’t do:

  • Unblock your Stripe account.
  • Access funds held by Stripe.
  • Change your Stripe verification details.

Preventing blocks

Best practices:

  • Complete Stripe verification at signup, before your first payment.
  • Keep your info up to date (address, ID, website).
  • Respond to disputes (chargebacks) fast: provide evidence within Stripe’s deadlines.
  • Describe your activity clearly in Stripe: an accessible website with product descriptions reduces review risk.

FAQ

Can NoCode.shop unblock my Stripe account?
No. Your Stripe account is yours and only Stripe can lift restrictions. NoCode.shop has no access to Stripe’s verification decisions. Contact Stripe support at dashboard.stripe.com.
Will my customers be charged during the block?
Usually yes. Stripe keeps collecting payments even when payouts to your bank are suspended. Funds are held by Stripe until the restriction is lifted.
Should I switch to GoCardless?
GoCardless works as a temporary fix for European customers. But it’s not a Stripe replacement: GoCardless only handles SEPA direct debits, not cards. Fix the Stripe situation first.
How long does a Stripe block last?
Depends on the reason. KYC verification usually resolves in 1–5 business days after submitting docs. Dispute-related blocks may take longer. Stripe shows timelines in your dashboard.
